Highover Safeguarding Statement
Highover JMI School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the physical and emotional welfare of children both inside and outside of the school premises. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We implement a whole-school preventative approach to managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken. Our school is a community and all those directly connected with it (staff members, volunteers, governors, parents, families and pupils) have an essential role to play in making it safe and secure.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection, whistle blowing and anti-bullying policies.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Ms Debbie Nisbet (also Inclusion Lead) Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs) are Mrs Lisa Hayes (Headteacher), Miss Marie Michaelides (Deputy head) and Mrs Sophie Driver (Deputy head). Our trainee DDSL is Monika Donoghue and our E-Safety DSL is Frances Clarke. The DSL team have a formal meeting weekly but are on-call throughout the week. The Governor with responsibility for safeguarding in our school is Mr Andy Windebank.
We are a safer recruitment organisation. Two references will be required for all candidates and candidates will be required to complete a self disclosure form if invited for interview. Candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment, which will include asking specific questions relating to safeguarding during the interview.
